Frequently Asked Questions

  • I cover a range of formats and genres. My key niche is personality-driven profile videos for small businesses or sole traders, who are ready to make an investment in high quality promotional material to enhance the value of their brand.

I’m known in Canberra as a go-to videographer for artists and makers, but I love meeting people from any background. I’m keen to hear your project idea, work with you on an idea together, or if I’m not the right fit for you, I can point you in the right direction - drop me a line and let’s chat!

  • Canberra has excellent media production teams creating outstanding work, but the key difference is that I’m a videographer, and operate at a smaller scale.

I may hire one or two trusted creatives for a shoot, but for everything else I’m working solo, which means that I’m always your go-to contact. This direct communication and consistency tends to suit artists, makers, and small businesses who want something personal and high quality without the complexity and overhead of a larger production team.

  • My primary aim is to create a safe, seamless, and positive experience for every client at every step of the process. From initial contact, to consultation, brainstorming, shooting, follow-ups, revisions, and the quality of the final video: every interaction matters.

When filming, we’ll take breaks when we need to, look at footage together as we go, I’ll be giving words of encouragement, cracking the odd joke to keep things fun, and making sure you’re comfortable at every step of the way. Clients say I’m optimistic, solutions-oriented, and a calm, grounding presence.

At all other times, you’ll get regular updates, clear communication, and a simple, straightforward timeline.

  • There are many variables which influence price of a service, such as the number of filming days, length of the project, editing requirements, locations, complexity, motion graphics, deliverables, turnaround time, etc.

Video for your business is usually also tax-deductible, and there are often ways to get more value from your video with forward-thinking. For example, a single shoot can cover multiple video formats in one hit, supporting a main video, shorter edits for socials, vertical versions, and website content, with minimal editing needed to adapt for those formats.

  • Absolutely!

Smartphones are incredibly useful. They are a versatile, readily available, inexpensive tool and are excellent for regular updates, behind-the-scenes clips, or day-to-day content, adding authenticity to your brand. I generally recommend most clients (of smaller sizes) to use smartphones to do regular marketing posts (…or to hire a savvy gen z to do it for you).

However, as great as phones are, my cameras will destroy the latest smartphones in a quality contest any day of the week, with better dynamic range, clarity, colour information, sharpness, reliability, optical quality (e.g. bokeh), etc. Professional lighting makes an even bigger difference to the end result, and then there’s the audio and editing to consider as well!

Ultimately, production quality influences how your brand is perceived, so for most small businesses, I recommend a mix of both approaches. Use your phone for regular behind-the-scenes updates, and invest in a few well-chosen professional videos where it matters most.

  • Many people are camera shy, but interviews aren’t just for ‘extroverts’: quiet people usually have the most interesting things to say. Profile videos are the most direct way for an audience to see the real you, and authentic connection is essential for any small enterprise.

The good news: I’ve worked with a lot of people who are shy around cameras and I’m good at what I do. I’ll gently guide you through the process with no pressure and no judgement. I’ll make sure the shot looks great, and that if we miss something important we go back and get it later.

It may also help to remember that videos are edited to remove filler words (ums and ahs) wherever possible, and I only choose the best bits to include in the final video!
